Over 25 hours of audio with expert CFI Jason Miller delivered in short bits of flying wisdom that are both charming and informative. http://learnthefinerpoints.com/podcast ***** Additional DETAILS from Dr. Howard Donner: The pulse oximeter shines two beams of light through the finger. One beam is red light and the other is infrared light. The ratio of red to infrared light is used to determine the oxygen saturation. Regarding being in good cardiovascular shape as related to avoiding altitude issues. The answer is ... being in top physical shape (or having a high level of cardiovascular fitness) helps with performance in all arenas but has no specific advantage for helping pilots adapt to altitude. Incase the explanation of blood saturation was not clear enough: The bottom line is Oxygen saturation reflects the percentage of the total hemoglobin that is carrying oxygen. ***** AND big thanks to Nonin for being nimble and quickly setting up a deal to get the GO2 Achieve (including a lanyard and case) into the monthly prize - it occurred to me to reach out as I was finalizing this edit, and we got a deal together with less than 24 hours before publishing :) http://www.nonin.com/Finger-Pulse-Oximeter/Nonin-GO2-Achieve How Can You Support Flight Chops? I have had my PPL for over 15 years, but still consider each flight a learning experience - I generally take detailed notes after each flight to remind myself what went well or what I could do to improve.... Having the GoPro cameras to record flights like this is invaluable. I find these self analysis videos very helpful in my constant quest to improve, and am happy to share. Feedback is invited; however, please keep it positive.
